Normally it will become noisy.
Hi i have a 2003 Mercedes vito 2.2 tdi 108 van can you tell me has it got a timing belt or a chain thanks mike
Timing chains do not need to be replaced, only timing belts. Save your money and don't let the car dealer tell you otherwise.
One way to tell if the timing chain is broken on your Nissan Altima is to see if it will start. If it starts, it is not the timing chain. You can also remove the distributor cap, have someone step on the gas while you watch the engine. If the rotor moves, it is not the timing chain.
I am almost certain that the timing chain should last throught the life of the Explorer.
Highly doubtful, the engine has a timing chain and the ignition relies on a crank sensor for timing. But if the chain did jump you could probably tell by doing a compression test.
It uses a timing chain
You can tell a timing chain is bad when your engine makes a sharp washboard-like sound that increases in intensity when the engine's RPMs increase.
The chain will become noisy and you may experience poor performance.
If its a 6cl,it's got a timing chain, I never heard of one braken. If it,s a 4cl, it's got a belt. Don't try to start it. Take it to a repair shop.
You use a timing light to check the marks on the timing chain/belt.
It will F@#! your car up real bad.
Run a compression test. If compression in all cylinders is low, it's probably the timing chain.
