Axles: 4.44:1or 4.11:1 - some debate on those numbers. I've never heard of 4.44 before this.
The axle ratio on a 1998 Mustang Cobra is 3.27:1
Yes, it will fit and mount up just fine. But you will have to make sure the front differential gear ratio matches that of your rear differential. Or what you could do is swap the transmission from the Forester along with the rear differential from the Forester

The rear end gear ratio on a 1980 Oldsmobile is 3.73, in the overdrive gear. The low gear ratio is 1.43.

it has 2.73's but had a factory optional 3.27 gear upgrade back then. So would have to check to know.
