What is the best wheel size on a Forester?

Of course the correct answer is the wheel size that came from the factory. The answer that you are seeking depends on what your goal is. Those currently fashionable huge diameter wheels with tires that have very little sidewall height handle great but are really pricey and make your car ride poorly over bumps. I replaced the 15" wheels on my '00 Forester with 7" wide 16" rims and a 55 aspect ratio tire that had approximately the same rolling diameter as the 70 series 15" tires I took off. I am pleased with the change in my Forester but then I am not you. Have some idea of what you want to accomplish then go talk with several tire and wheel dealers to see what they can supply and how much it costs. I got completely different answers and suggestions from every one. The up side of dealing with someone face-to-face is that if they don't fit on your car, you can return them right away. Internet is not the place to do this kind of experimenting. Good luck!

What fuse controls the clock in a 98 Subaru Forester?

If your Subaru clock has stopped working, it is most likely not the fuse. There is a defect in these clocks that causes them to stop working after a few years.

Fortunately, this defect is quite easy to repair using only a soldering iron. Complete instructions on this repair can be found at: http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f77/oh-no-my-clock-doesnt-work-3350/

If you don't feel like you want to get into all the technicals of how to repair the clock yourself, it can be repaired at a reasonable rate at subaru-clock.com or on eBay from a variety of vendors.

01 Forester makes buzzing noise when accelerating pitch gets higher stepping on gas and gets lower when coasting to lower speed seems to go along with change in rpms new LF axle inaudible at 65mph?

You should check if the clutch is still OK. When it gets worn out, the engine 'races' to high revs ( with high pitch) when you accelerate. When driving without much load on the engine, that is, for example, coasting on the straight and a higher speed, the engine will sound fine but try to accelerate harder and the 'revving up' will show up again.

Why would the parking and dash lights come on when '97 Aerostar is turned off and key is removed?

In my experiences with Aerostars, your "problem" is actually a feature. It is a safety measure to ensure that you can see to your destination without tripping on things if they shut off after let's say 3-5 minutes it is just a feature to ensure your safety. Reading the owner's manual or investing in a Haynes Repair Manual will further investigate this "problem" and give you a solution.

How do you adjust the idle speed on 2009 Subaru Forester?

Idle speed is controlled by the Electronic Control Unit and is not adjustable by the consumer. The question is why you would even want to mess with this on a car that is under warranty?

How do you replace a 2001 Subaru Forester headlight bulb?

These are actually pretty easy. Remove anything you need to remove to get access to the back of the headlight. Remove the electrical contact by pulling straight back as you wiggle it. Pull the neoprene boot back and there is a metal spring clip you squeeze and swing out of the way. The bulb almost drops out.

I may be a little off in the sequence but this is the basic idea. Pretty easy once you figure it out. Your auto parts guy may perform this service for you if you ask.

Where is the neutral safety switch on a Subaru Forester?

The neutral safety switch (automatic transmission) is located under the small oblong cover behind the gear shift lever - looking from the driver seat. You first need to remove the cover by a small screw driver and then you need to use (as an old Forester manual tells) the Subaru screwdriver to push the neutral safety switch down. Then you can move the gear shift lever to any position freely. I prepared a small rod and I'm storing in the ashtray that I do not come facing to very anoying situation anymore ..... The trailer's plug caused a short circuit and burned the fuse. At the next stop I was unable to move the gear shift lever from P-position. I was a total bolck of the traffic on that whole area. Unfortunately this piece of information is missing from the current version of Forester's manual and may cause several similar kind on difficult situations, what I already had.

What is the use of the knock sensor on vehicles?

Most knock sensors send a base or “no knocking” reference signal to the PCM. If knocking occurs, the sensor detects the increased vibration and increases its signal to the PCM. The PCM then slightly retards timing until the sensor signal returns to the reference level. If a temporary condition caused the knock, the PCM will set spark timing to the programmed advance. If the knock returns, the PCM will cycle spark timing, advancing timing until knock is encountered and then retarding timing until the knock is gone. Knock occurs when the air-fuel mixture doesn’t burn smoothly or is ignited too soon. Knock can be caused by “hot spots” in the cylinder, such as carbon deposits or spark plugs that are too hot for the engine, high combustion chamber temperatures, or using too low an octane fuel. Knocking can cause engine damage so the sensor is there to protect the engine.

What is the towing capacity of a 1998 Subaru Forester?

This information is in your owner's manual and that is the most reliable source. Mine says that you can pull 1000 pounds or 2000 pounds with electric brakes. It's no picnic towing a trailer with a Subaru but for occasional use hauling the pedal boat down to the lake or bringing a new vanity from the home center, it beats having to buy another vehicle. --Ken

Where is the knock sensor on the 95 240SX?

under the fuel rail

It's under the intake manifold actually. If you look between the #2 and #3 runners with a flashlight, you can see where the knock sensor is bolted to the engine.

What type of engine oil do you use in a 2001 Subaru Forrester?

The best thing to do is to use the oil recommended in your Forester owner's manual for the climate that you live in, time of year, type of driving, etc. There is no one correct answer to your question. If you do not have an owner's manual, they are available from a number of eBay sellers. You could also ask the Subaru dealer nearest you. --Ken

Replaced battery on 98 Subaru Forester now hazard lights are flashing outside the vehicle the hazard lights inside are not on nor is the button to turn them on pushed in?

Hey, you have to reset your cars "computer". You can try two things to do this:

  1. Simply use your keyless remote to unlock/lock the car, which should reset the computer, according to http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f88/my-blinking-parking-lights-wont-turn-off-42380/ OR
  2. Locate a small, black button protected by a black cup on the bottom edge of the dashboard, just up and left of the brake pedal. It is not on the floor or under the dash, but right at the edge, in front of the on-board diagnostic computer connection. Put your keys in the ignition, and when you locate the button, press and hold it. turn on the ignition (not start the car) while holding the button for around 20 seconds and . You will hear the locks lock and unlock three times. This should fix your problem.

This will work but I could not find the button, I looked around and found out that if before you connect the negative battery terminal you turn on the ignition switch to the on position and then connect it, the car will not flash anymore.

Where is the spark knock sensor on a 2000 Saturn SL2 with 1.9L?

The knock sensor is located on the rear of the engine (fire wall) above the oil filter, towards the middle of the block. It has a plastic connector with one single wire in it and has a brass hex base. It's mounted at about a 30 degree angle to the vertical block face and is accessible from underneath the car.

How do you open the fuel tank on a subaura outback forester?

My fuel gauge was giving weird readings so I went to a dealership. They told me that the system consists of two parts (kind of, a transmitter in the fuel tank and a receiver outside). To replace the transmitter one needs to get access to the tank. They told me that this is not easy. You have to remove the back seats. Then there are some bolts. In my case the bolts got rusty and one of them just broke, so the mechanics decided to leave the tank alone to avoid the possibility of braking it (it is plastic). This is all I know.

Where is the knock sensor in 1998 villager?

I have a 1999 villager with check engine light on. Analysis of the codes indicates faulty knock sensor. I have not replaced it yet but according to the Haynes manual it is under the intake manifold.Upper and lower intake manifolds must be removed for access. If I learn anything else interesting when I get into the replacement I will send info. My 1999 Villager may have the same knock senser problerm and the fault code is "PO325, 1 of 4, 1 Circuit malfunction bank 1 or 1 senser". I am not likely to spend $500 on it since the knock senser applied only after 1990 and it is not that important as others. Am I right? Twoo weeks ago, I got PO400 and PO325 from my 97 Villager, the problem was caused by a hose off from behind the engine. Puting it back and cleaning up the codes solved the problem and this costs $24+tax. The po325 is cause by a weak hose behind the egr. The po400 can be caused by a motor mount, misfire. If the engine moves while you power brake(in drive with foot on brake) you probably need a mount .

How do you adjust headlights on a 2001 Forester?

There are 2 adjustment posts for each lamp inside the engine compartment. They're hexagonal and require the use of a socket to twist. Look for them on the backside of the headlight assy.
