I think you probably mean a 'brake' test, not a 'break' test. A 'brake test' is performed to find the output power of any machine. In North America, this is commonly expressed as 'brake horsepower'; elsewhere it is expressed in 'watts'.
When you got your CDL did you take the road test in a air brake equipped vehicle? If you did not then you have to retest to add air brakes. Not the whole test just the air brake portion both written and pre-trip portion of road test.

Brake test is used to determine the efficiency of comparatively small motors. The motor is loaded directly by means of a mechanical brake (load) or by means of an eddy current or a calibrated air fan.
You can get a free air brake test through Bendix. You can get the test mailed to you from Elyri, Ohio and then you can take it and send it back to see if you have passed the test. There are several places where you can get some free prep for your test. I would suggest trying www.testprepreview.com.

There isn't an air brake endorsement. If you haven't completed and passed the written air brakes test at the DMV and conducted your road test in an air brake equipped CMV, then you have a restriction prohibiting you from operating a CMV equipped with air brakes. You take the written test and do the road test in an air brake equipped vehicle.
First check the brake light fuse, if good, then test the brake light switch.
