A m.a.p or manifold absolute pressure sensor can be tested with a scan tool on 1996 and later vehicles. This sensor is found only on some vehicles. Others have a m.a.f sensor (mass air flow). These sensors measure air flow before entering the engine and send the info to the pcm (computer). If the m.a.p sensor is faulty you may or may not have a "check engine" light illuminated.
You need to test the wires at the map.
The MAP sensor - another frequent cause of stalling or non-starting. This measures the air pressure in the manifold. You can test it - if your car won't start, just unplug the electrical connection from the MAP sensor. If it starts, replace the sensor. MAP sensor details. (It may act as though the fuel pump is not working properly - starting, then quickly dying).
The location of the map sensor depends on what year of which model car you are asking about.
The MAP sensor is on top of the throttle body. as you are looking at the engine from the front of the car, it is on the right side of the engine. The sensor says "MAP Sensor" on the top of it. very convenient.
On the firewall on the right side. if the car is 3.3l v6 then the car doesn't have a map sensor but it does have a mass air flow sensor the code is the same for both of them only a 2.3 has the map sensor so don't be fooled by this by code 34 the chilton book is very helpful
The 91 has the 4.6L engine and has a MAF sensor located just after the air filter box so it has no MAP sensor.
The MAP sensor measures air flow for your car's computer. The computer uses air flow to set fuel flow for the correct fuel/air mixture.

The MAP sensor ( Manifold Absolute Pressure sensor) sends the correct internal pressure to the ECU for the proper fuel/air mixture.
Check voltage between pins 1 and 4 with the key on and engine not running. You should have 4 to 5 volts. With then engine idling, it should drop to 1.5 to 2.1 volts. Test PCM terminal 36 for same results. If different, check wiring/connectors. Test for MAP sensor ground at terminal 1 and PCM terminal 43 Test supply voltage at sensor terminals 3 and 1. It should be 4.5 to 5.5 volts and the same at PCM terminal 61 If all test good, MAP sensor is bad, if not, fix wiring harness.
It will kick on the check engine light and the car won't go into closed loop
