If you hold the fan,with the engine NOT running, and try to move it side to side and there is not any play in it and it is not leaking, then you can assume that it is good. If it is making noise then it is defective.

The water pump is located in the middle of the front of the engine. The water pump is fairly easy to reach and replace.
