Hi, When my '97 3.9l did the same thing, I ended up repalcing the IAC (Idle air contol solenoid) Its held on by 2 screws on the back side of the throttle body. If you change it, make sure you clean the hole out where the plunger goes with carb cleaner. Good luck .....
