put air presure on the two holes for the hoses and then put in a drum of water if makes bublees is bad if not is ok

Remove two 10mm head bolts from the front of the cooler and the other 4 which are located by the oil filter. You can then slide the entire cooler out the back and that's it. Model years prior to 99 you do the same thing but have to loosen the left motor mount to be able to remove the cooler. 99-2003 it slides right out. Good luck.

We were told by our vw service the beetle is made to have lifetime tranny fluid, therefore there is not a dipstick or a fill area. It is all self contained and has to be filled by service through the tranny drain/pan under the car.

Check to see if there is a transmission oil cooler. sometimes their fittings are the same size as some of the smaller radiator lines. see if those got mixed up some how.
