because we have more technology
If you think about this you can figure out lots of reasons. What do we have today that they didn't have in the past? Technology like satellites to photograph the land and like accurate ways to measure areas.
People needed to make maps in the past to navigate unknown territories, facilitate trade and travel, and establish territorial boundaries. Maps were essential tools for explorers, merchants, and governments to understand the world around them and plan their journeys.
People think about other people from the past because either they have had a loved one die or maybe a good friendship they want to remember so they continue to think about the person because they might miss them. Or as parents, we like to think about and recall memories of our children when they were tiny tots (in the past) because we have good and loving feelings about our children that we like to remember.
I think the same now, copper.
You.
