This statement is inaccurate. Lunar and solar eclipses can be predicted with high accuracy using astronomical calculations and models. The timing and visibility of eclipses can be forecasted many years in advance.
There have been total solar eclipses about every other year since the Moon formed 4 billion years ago. You can see the list of past and future eclipses from 2000 BC to 3000 AD on the NASA Eclipse Web Site at the link below.
that it was either gometric or heliocentric, the Indians are split between both
A few ancient civilizations had methods of predicting the occurrence of solar and lunar eclipses. The most famous is Stonehenge, an astronomical observatory in England. Eclipses are mathematically predictable; if you know the patterns of past eclipses, you can anticipate the next one. Today, we use elaborate computer models to calculate the time and location of future eclipses, but manual calculation techniques in antiquity still provided adequate accuracy for predictions.
A Saros cycle is an eclipse cycle of approximately 18 years, 11 days, and 8 hours, after which the Sun, Earth, and Moon return to nearly the same relative geometry in a three-body system, leading to similar solar or lunar eclipses. This cycle consists of a series of eclipses that occur at intervals of 6,585.3 days, allowing for the prediction of future eclipses based on past events. Each Saros cycle typically produces around 70 eclipses, including both solar and lunar types.
Yes because they thought it brought them bad luck.
They used solar energy
In the very distant past, the Moon's orbit was closer to Earth than it is now, and the Moon continues to VERY SLOWLY recede in its orbit. So it is likely (although I have not seen any calculations to bear this out) that in the distant past there would have been fewer annular eclipses and more total eclipses. However, there was nobody around to notice.
The best website for eclipses would be undoubtedly: http://www.eclipse.org.uk/eclipse/ it gives both solar and lunar eclipses.....its easy to use, has gif animation to illustrate how the eclipse is going to look in your place, where will it be total, what path it will cover etc....it also gives details about past and future eclipses.....NASA eclipse website is tad bit complicated.....
They thought they were a sign from the gods saying somthing was about to happen but overall no one really investigated into because they only lived to view it once. Some people thought it was a important person who'd died and was rising with the moon as a star to join the constelations in the night sky. Add your opinion in the disscuson or any other answers you know here ..............
Solar energy is renewable. It will last for billions of years without running out.Oil is in danger of running out. Many people think that "peak-oil" time is past. It is becoming harder and more expensive to find and extract oil.
