They thought they were a sign from the gods saying somthing was about to happen but overall no one really investigated into because they only lived to view it once.

Some people thought it was a important person who'd died and was rising with the moon as a star to join the constelations in the night sky.

people from the past only lived to see it once so they never really went to investigate it. they most probably thought that it was a one time only thing. this lead them to also not understanding the world and the outside so they just thought that it was a bit weird and freaky...
