In the Aeneid why do the Trojans assume that the Greeks have sailed for home?

In Book II of the Aeneid the Trojans notice that the Greek ships have gone from the beach in front of Troy. In fact the Greeks have only moved their navy around the headland to Tenedos - but the Trojans don't know this. (Vergil makes it clear that the Trojans are ready to believe that the Greeks are gone, because that is what they want to believe). The Trojans leave the city and walk around the abandoned Greek camp. They find the Wooden Horse, and they capture Sinon - a Greek warrior who claims to have deserted the Greek army. Sinon confirms that the Greeks have abandoned the siege - but he is a carefully planted spy. (Sinon will later be the one who opens the horse once it is within Troy's walls).

How did the Trojan war end?

The Trojan war ended when the Greeks left a huge wooden horse outside the gates of Troy. (The Greeks couldn't get past the walls of Troy) The Trojans, seeing the horse, thought it was an offering to the Gods, and wheeled it into the city; they saw that the Greeks were gone, so presumed they had given up and gone home. There were great celebrations; the Trojans didn't realize that the horse had a hollow belly, and that inside, were Greek soldiers waiting until nightfall to emerge from the horse. Night came, and the Trojans were all asleep and drunk from the celebrations, so they didn't notice as the Greeks came out from the horse, and slaughtered them all while they were unconscious. Some women were taken by the Greeks to go back to Sparta etc. as spoils (too unpleasant to mention,) particularly King Priam's (Troy's king) daughters, and wife. King Priam was killed, along with his sons. Helen (the woman the war was fought about - supposedly daughter of Zeus (in swan form) and the queen of Sparta; because of her supposed astounding beauty,) was taken back by Menelaus, and she lived out her days with her abandoned daughter Hermione and her husband (Menelaus.) Troy was razed to the ground; burned by the Greeks.

What happens during a pause in the Trojan War?

Hey, you might be from yc cause of our book report but i hope this works anyway. During a pause Menelaus and Paris get in a fight. Aphrodite then took Paris in a could and took him back to Troy. Menelaus was angry and went through the Trojan ranks seeking Paris, and not a man there but would have helped him for they all hated Paris, but h was gone, no one knew how or where. So Agamemnon spoke to both armies, declaring that Menelaus was victor and bidding that the Trojans give Helen back. This was just, and the Trojans would have agreed if Athena, at Hera's prompting , has not interfered. Hera was determined that the war should not end until Troy was ruined. Athena , sweeping down to the battlefield, persuaded the foolish hear of Pandarus, a Trojan, to break the truce and shoot an arrow at Menelaus. He did wso and wounded him, only slightly, but the Greeks in reage at the Treachery turned upon the Trojans and the battle was on again. Hope this helps. Why was the wooden horse of Troy famous?

The Greeks were unable to breach the walls of Troy and used the Horse, with warriors concealed inside, to get inside the city. The deluded Trojans, thinking the Greeks had gone home and left this horse-god behind, conveniently brought it inside the city, and the warriors then opened the gates to let in the rest of the Greeks who had returned during the night. The city was taken and the surviving population enslaved. The expression Trojan Horse is used today to describe a trap secretly planted to catch an unwary target. It is specifically used to describe a hidden virus which unsuspecting cumputer owners download unaware of its presence in an apparently innocuous email or attachment.

What might have happened if the Trojans have overpowered the Greek soldiers as they emerged from the wooden horse?

It is not clear. Menelaus was presumably inside the Trojan Horse, so it is possible that--if the Trojans had managed to kill the Greeks inside the horse-- the war would have ended since the whole point of the war was to get Helen (his wife) back. However, it is likely that Agamemnon (his brother) would have continued the war in the name of vengeance. OR --- The Trojan Horse was a last ditch attempt because the Greeks did not have a siege train and could not breach the walls. Nor were they strong enough to starve the city out. Having successfully ended their looting expedition of the coast of the Aegean Sea, which was their object, and with now no hope of capturing the richest prize Troy, they would have gone home to enjoy their loot and slaves.
