If it's the alternator belt, loosen the bolts holding the alternator in place, then use something like a hammer handle to pry the alternator away from the engine which will tighten the belt. Hold the pressure on the alternator while tightening the bolts.
This is a general procedure, not specific to 1996 Dodge.
look in the instruction booklet
Loose or worn A/C drive belt. Tighten or replace. If serpentine belt, replace.
most cars have an adjuster pulley where you can tighten the belt and also replaceit as well.
How do you tighten the serpentine belt on an oldsmobile ciera
there is a belt tensioner pulley that maybe is not working correctly
There is a tensioner bolt that is connected to the alternator. You have to screw in the bolt, which will pull the alternator out and tighten the belt.
You can do that by replacing the tensioner
depending on the style of belt, on the alternator belt there is an adjustment just below the slider holding the alternator, you just simply tighten it until belt becomes tight.
remove skid plat ,then find ac belt tensioner, loosen lock bolt in center, then tighten long bolt until belt has right tension onit ,then tighten lock nut.
the belt is automatically tensioned by a spring loaded tensioner.
The belt has an automatic spring tensioner and can not be "tightened".
there is no way to tighten your belt it has an automatic belt tensioner if it is making noise it may be the tensioner or the belt also check to see if it routed correctly
