one way i found worked was really squeeze with your legs to push the horse/ pony forwrd but as your doing that ticle your reins and just "suggest" the horse should go down. there are many ways of getting a horse to go on the bit, but this one works for me.

You can, but it will take a lot of retraining for the horse to learn the pressure cues given by the bitless bridle and many horses have trouble collecting and extending without the aid of a bit.

The bit will automatically go on top of the tongue when you put the bridle on the horse but if you do it wrong then it will go under the tongue so make sure you do it right if the horse lifts its head when you try so make sure that there's someone tall around to help you get the bit in>

How do you bridle train a horse?
Bridle training a horse can take a long time. You can start the horse out young however and get them used to it. While the horse is still a foal (If you have the horse while it's that young) get it used to having a leather foal halter on and lead it around gently. As the horse gets older, around a year old or so you can place a bridle (Without the bit) on it's head and begin to lead it with the bridle on. After the horse accepts this you can introduce the bit, a very gentle snaffle type bit is best, give the horse treats while it has the bit and bridle on at the same time. Again once this becomes second nature to the horse to have a bridle and bit on you can begin training the horse to follow the pressure from the bit and how to turn, move forward, and backwards. You'll need a helper for this portion of the training. Eventually the horse will accept the pressure and you will have a horse trained to the bridle.

You shouldn't go up to a bigger bit. This horse needs training. If you can't train him, get someone who can, it'll be for the best. With training, you should be able to ride him in a snaffle instead of covering up his lack of training with a bigger, stronger bit. If you don't train him to go well in a snaffle, you will always be having to move up to a bigger bit, and he will develop bad habits, like evading the bit (if he hasn't already) Maybe even try a bitless bridle Try a Shank bit try a rubber bit, basically try anything until you find one he listens to and likes try not to pull hard, also remember you cant get a horse to follow you by getting a tougher bit, try retrainin him, a tough bit will only hurt or aggrivate him.
