Unfortuneatly, this format is far too small to allow a full account of the training of a horse. The steps taken to a fully trained horse would, and should, fill a book. From halter breaking the baby to a perfectly executed 'flying change of leads', and other difficult manuvers, it is a long, and at times exasperating, but always exciting and fulfilling road to a fully trained equine partner.

You can teach a pony tricks by starting with horse gaits. First, do a walk , then a trot , then a lope, then canter, next is slow gallop, last and fastest is gallop.

^^those are gaits, not tricks...^^

You can also teach your pony how to bow, shake "hands", shake his head yes, shake his head no, "count" with his foot (paw at the ground a certain number of times), and many other things.

You can use finger signals, like pointing up to shake his head yes, pointing down to shake his head no. For "counting", hand signals also come in handy. You could crook your finger a certain number of times. Or tap his side. You need to find ways to train him. Some people tickle the leg or chest to bow, but some horses don't respond to that. You need horse treats and practice to get those commands down pat. Give a treat to your horse every time he does better or perfect. Don't slap him when he's wrong. Be patient and try again. Reward him when he at least tries. Good luck!!

The training needed for your pony depends upon what you want his/her job to be. There are many training methods for different disciplines and can vary from trick training, to english or western riding, to training them to drive. Some horses and ponies are even used as therapy animals or seeing-eye animals.

Training a horse to ride is a long process. Step1: At about two years old you can begin backing the horse once it gets used to having a saddle and girth around it. To do so you should have a helper on the ground holding the horse by the bridle to keep it still. Then get a boost into the saddle and lay across it, do not sit up in the saddle yet. Have the helper lead the horse around until it relaxes. Step2: Once the horse is used to having you laying on it's back you can swing your leg over and sit up on the horses back, once again have the handler lead the horse around until the horse is calm. Step3: So long as the horse is calm you may then pick up the reins and while the handler walks along near the horse you may apply leg and rein aids to get the horse to move for you. This is usually when the horse becomes upset and may put up a fight so be ready for it to buck or rear. Eventually over a period of a few weeks the horse will become used to a human on it's back and then you can proceed with further training.

How does a pony train its young?

They don't train their young. Training is the human's responsibility. The mother is just responsible for rearing them enough so that they'll be able to be dependent after a year, and teaching them what's best to eat and to trust humans, if the pony mare is used to human contact.
