You just train it like any other dog. However puppies are easier to train but it's possible to train a middle age or elderly dog, it just needs more patience. It will take a bit longer for some older dogs but some are just as good at learning new behaviours and tricks as puppies.
The same way you do with other dogs put it out side frequently. And if it happens to have an accident in the house DO NOT SMACK IT!!! Just simple put the poo outside so it knows where the poo goes and if its pee just wipe it up. Make sure you disinfect the place the dog had an accident or it will think its OK and keep doing it. It doesn't take long to housebreak a Shih Tzu you just need some patients. And if you've tried everything and the dog keeps having accidents Petsmart offers potty training lessons for a low price.
Old dogs CAN learn new tricks! Take your dog outside and play with it. Then lay on the grass and let the dog sniff around and do it's business. When it does (and it will) praise the dog highly. Also take your dog for a walk and you can bet they will do their business while on the walk. Many dogs prefer to be free in order to accomplish their call of nature so take the dog to a field or wooded area to do this. If you only have a park then take 'doggie poop bags' with you to clean up the mess after. It takes patience and don't blame the dog, but the former owner. Remember this dog can't tell you the story of their life and ALL dogs want to please their master/mistress and will try the best they can. When they make a mess NEVER hit them, but point a finger and say 'Shame'. Then take the dog out. Dogs are smart and will pick up on the rules of your home.
Hi, '''Take time off to housetrain your dog. Someone needs to take your dog out for midday bathroom breaks, so experts recommend taking time off work when you first get your dog. Here are some guidelines to housetrain your dog: http://dogtime.com/housetraining-for-adults.html '''
it best not to have puppies with a dog from a dog shelter
When you think the dog needs to go outside pick him/her up and carry them out, when doing this love on the dog and talk to the dog. Also use a sweet voice with an abused dog.He/her will learn to trust and love you back.
It depends on the shelter
Yes, it does depend on if the dog had health issues or what the dog's background is. The prices for a shelter dog is relitivly low ,sometimes, compared to a local pet store or breeder, but if you do adopt from a shelter you may be saving a dog's life.
in a dog pound or in a community shelter
Depends on the dog.
A dog loo is a shelter for a dog
at the anmial shelter or rescue shelter or depend on what dog your give away you can sell dogs
the dog kept shelter from the rain ........
I have never bought a dog from a shelter but I think it is a good idea because you are saving a dog's life in a way and the shelter usually makes sure the dog is neutered/spade which can save you a lot of money as well.
Yes, with training a shelter dog may become a Guide or Service dog, it must pass several tests, including temperament.
