On the side of the opener by where the thin wires connect there should be a 1/4 inch square button. Push this and you have 30 seconds to enter a 4 digit code in the remote pad and then press enter on the pad. That should do it. Instruction should be on the inside of the cover on the remote pad. I have had the same problem but when trying to get a number pad and a remote to work on the same opener has been a challenge! I can get either to work but I can not get both Suggestions I have two openers #1 Craftsman 139.53672 SRT1 mfg date 9-97 Key pad does not work (yes that sucks) #2 Craftsman 139.53910 mfg date 8-04 works like a charm go figure.

The garage door opener is attached to the sun visor above the driver. Three buttons in a row, first button on the left. It needs to be programed with the remote from your garage.
The garage door opener can be programmed into any car. The control works like a TV remote that is universal. The opener just needs to be mounted to the interior of the car.
