There is no such thing as translating an alphabet of any Eurpean origin into Japanese. However, the first character in the Japanese alphabet is coincidentally 'A' but it is not pronounced as 'a' in age [sound like 'ey' from hey], and it's not pronounced as 'a' in car [sound like 'ahh' softer a]. It is pronounced as 'a' in bat [sharp a sound]

That is tricky because Japanese does not have an alphabet like English; instead, it is a syllabary.

The 'ah' sound is written あ。

Or, in a word from another language put into Japanese, ア。
Japanese doesn't have an equivalent to the letter A. The reason being that the Latin alphabet describes phonemes and the Japanese alphabets describe syllables, along with one set of characters (Kanji) being a collection of logograms. However, to express the sound "ah" (this would be one of the base Japanese vowels), you can write it as あ [hiragana] or ア [katakana].

You can't translate the letter "A" into Japanese, but you can translate some of its sounds. For example:

  • A as in play = エイ
  • A as in father = ア
  • A as in cat = doesn't exist in Japanese
  • A as in raw = オ
