How do you transport a dead body from Idaho to North Dakota?

In order to transport a dead body, you'll need to secure the Burial Transit Permit. It's part of the death certificate. The easiest way is to seek the guidance of a local funeral home, supply the necessary information for the death certificate, the doctor will sign it as well as the acting mortician, and once it's filed with the state (or local health dept. to be registered with the state), you'll have the burial transit permit needed to take the body out of Idaho. This is for people that would prefer to do the transport themselves (family member, friend, etc.). It would be best to use a large van, pick-up with camper shell, or pick-up with a tarp covering the casket/body.

In order for funeral homes to arrange out-of-state transport, we usually contract with a local funeral home at the destination to take over the disposition. Like most funeral homes, we are equipped to travel long distances for transportation, but in many instances, shipping the body via air carrier is best. A new law has passed that requires those that ship dead bodies via air to register with the federal government to become a "known shipper." This helps alleviate security risks at the airport.
