If the wound is infected then you need to take the cat into a vet. They can give you antibiotics for the wound. If you can't get to the vet right away here are some things you should have on hand for a "Cat First Aid Kit" (found here: http://www.essortment.com/all/catsabscesses_rkxd.htm):
- medical gloves (preferably a few pairs)
- hydrogen peroxide
(preferable to alcohol)
- hibitane solution (an antibacterial cleanser)
- gauze, or cleansing pads
- pressure bandage
- vet wrap or bandage
- small first aid scissors and/or grooming clippers
- some 3-6cc syringes (without the needle)
(many of these products can be purchased through a veterinarian or at a local pet store)
STEPS IN TREATING A CAT WOUND
1. Put on medical gloves.
2. Assess the depth and size of the injury. If the cut is bleeding, largely open, or should the skin be partially flapped over, a pressure bandage needs to be applied (even a towel can be used, but apply a fair amount of pressure). This will need to be done for 2-5 minutes, or until all bleeding has ceased.
3. Once the wound appears fairly dry, it is important not to allow a scab to form without first cleansing the area (an infection can form underneath). If one has begun to form already, soaking the area with warm water and hydrogen peroxide will help dissolve it. Gently, the dried skin and scabs can be peeled off. This area may be painful to your cat, so please soak the area first and take the scabs off slowly. If the wound has been there for several days already, do not attempt to take the scab off as the healing process has already begun. Simply keep the area clean. If it seems infected, a veterinary visit may be necessary.
4. Gently trimming some of the fur surrounding the wounded area can make it easier for cleaning, as well as it can help keep the area free from unnecessary dirt or infection. Using a grooming set of clippers is easiest, otherwise use a small pair of first aid scissors.
5. After the cut has been dried and the scabs have been removed, generously rinse the area with a mixture of water and hibitane solution. This is done easiest by using a needle-free syringe, with which the wound can be directly cleansed and thoroughly rinsed. Do so a number of times.
6. If your cat's cut is fairly large, or if it had been bleeding quite profusely, it is best to keep a bandage on the area for a couple of days. You may also bandage it with vet wrap, although this step is unnecessary if the wound is quite small or narrow.
7. Cleaning the wound and removing any scabs that form will need to be continued every 12 hours for at least three to four days. Be sure to always apply a fresh bandage at each time, and use a water and hibitane rinse. Hydrogen peroxide can also be used. After the first 48 to 72 hours, the wound can be left uncovered.
8. Whenever your pet is feeling unwell or is injured, be sure to keep them indoors. Moreover, if the wounded area does not seem to be healing or if it continues to bleed or becomes infected, please see a veterinarian. Often antibiotics are required for faster and trouble-free healing.
The same way you would for a human. Wash the injured area with a disinfectant, make sure the wound is not deep enough to require stitches. If so, a trip to the vet may be advised. If not, apply pressure to stop any bleeding, bandage if necessary.
Best would be levaquin, since it is broad spectrum antibiotic and you dont know what kind of infection it is. Other than that amoxicillin or doxycycline can be used. Roughly 5% the dosage you would give to a human, so just scrape off some of the pill
If there is no infection and the wound is relatively superficial, I would give no antibiotics - just keep the area clean and dry and let it heal.

If you're referring to a wound the best way to tell is swelling, pus and the wound not healing quickly. If you think your cat has an infection of any sort (even if you're not completely sure) take to a Vet.

You didn't mention if your cat has been to the vets yet. It's obvious there is some form of dermatitis going on or something else. If you have been to the vet then the collar must be left on to give the medication a chance to work. If you haven't been to the vet for a diagnosis on your cat please do so as soon as possible.
If its possible the bullet is still in there the dog can't be treated at home. You will either need to take it to the vet or animal shelter if you can't afford one. You don't say on what area the wound is or how deep. If it not deep no bullet and the dog is eating and not acting ouchy you can try to clean the wound with betadine and give a anti biotic pencillin g in small does though not labeled can be effective with dogs dosage I give is 1cc im per 100lb for five days switch sides and give in hind leg. Both can be found at a feed store. However if the wound is bad or the dog is in pain it but get proper vet care. If this is a small dog I recommend the vet as well.
to be precise................... Abiotic is NON-LIVING, and biotic is LIVING.
By telling the patient how to care for the wound.
