For bacterial pinkeye, the most common treatment is application of antibiotics or sulfonamides to the affected eye as ointments, powders or sprays; preferable, with treatment made twice a day. Foreign protein therapy, which is the subQ or IM injection of such things as sterile milk, has been used to treat pinkeye for years, but its value is difficult to establish. Cortisone is sometimes combined with antibiotics and injected under the covering (at the outer edge) of the eyeball. The cortisone helps with reducing inflammation and pain and also lessens the tears. Recovery speeds up if the eye is covered by a patch, or if the animal is confined to a dark barn. Protecting the cornea by suturing the eyelids together, by using adhesive patches, or by using an ocular insert (resembling a soft contact lens; developed by researchers at the University of Illinois) is indicated if there is severe corneal damage.

For viral pinkeye, this can only be prevented by vaccinations prior to the onset of the disease. The herd should not be vaccinated once the disease appears, nor should pregnant cows be vaccinated. Viral pinkeye is caused by IBR or Infectious Bovine Rhinotracheitis. Affected animals should be quarantined from the rest of the herd. Treatment for IBR is seldom of any value since there is no known treatment yet available for IBR, though antibiotics sometime help reduce secondary bacterial infection.

When you get an eye infection the first thing you should NOT do is itch it. How to relaise it is when its gone red and it looks different to your other eye. To let it go away by its self don't touch the eye in any matter at ALL or it will get worse. If you don't touch it will go in about 2-3 days. if you have and it has swollen wash your hands. DONT touch the eye. Get warm water and a cotten pad and clean it thorougly at the corners everywhere in the eye. Always use warm water. Find the warmest you can find because the more hot it is the more the infection will die. DONT TOUCH the eye. If you do this process it will go in about erm... 1 week maybe or more. If you have got medication use that and the warm water with the cotton wool. I would recommend doing it when it really drives the itching crazy or before you go to bed. Do it as often because the infection will die soon. If you go doctors they will say they will cut your eye and get a PERMANANT MARK on the side of your eye. Dont agree to it. If you cant open your eye then you will have to go to your mum and dad tell them to pop it. It wont hurt. Be Brave. Or for a quicker remady. Get rose water at your local shop. You can get them at asain shops too. Get one teaspoon of that tell someone to do it for you. And put it in your eye. Dont twitch. Roll the eye around and your done. I would recommend only 1-2 teaspoons for each eye.Your eye will feel cool and in the morning it will be gone. If it hasn't do it again and it will be definetly gone. it takes about 1-2 days. It depends if you haven't touched it. Thanks.... p.s. only pop if you cant open your eye. Get well soon. :)

Eye infections may be caused by viral or bacterial and depending on the infection treatment must be taken. I usually try the eye drops with antibiotic ointments to treat minor eye and eyelid infections such as conjunctivitis. But in case there is no improvement within 2 days, you need to consult the doctor immediately.
