The key is to keep the area as clean and sterile as possible, and keep it from drying out. Typically that'll involve keeping the burn area covered with Silvadene (Silver Sulfadiazene) cream, and a non-stick burn bandage, swapping out/cleaning it once daily. Your doctor will also likely prescribe you some antibiotics, depending on how large the burn area is.
First, remove any dead skin that's hanging (sharp cuticle nippers or scissors work great), then clean gently with a mild soap and water, rinse and pat dry. Then apply the cream and non-stick bandage (bandage area won't stick to the wound).
There are also some moist non-stick burn bandages that are available over the counter that work very well. I used them several years ago after 2nd/3rd degree acid burns to the face and arm, and the 2nd degree burns healed up pretty well after about 10 days.
