You have to use your ears or use someone who has excellent hearing.

Let's say you have a kit with a very nice snare, right? Or maybe your kit is already amazing and expensive. You still have to tune them. Just find some resources. How you tune them right and all the same tone? Any resources, better start now or later you will do that anyway. After that your woods will be ok. Those expensive ones don't even need muffling if you tune them well enough.
