Nice of you to feel bad for him. Many girls wouldn't give it a second thought. Don't worry, though. If he is any kind of man, he will get over it and move on to another girl. The next time you have to turn a guy down, thank him for asking, tell him you are flattered, but that you would rather not go out with him. Don't make excuses like "I have to wash my hair" (I must have heard that one a dozen times) or some other nonsense. That is just rude and insulting.
