TDC with regards to an engine means Top Dead Center - and that means a piston is at the highest point in the cylinder befores it starts to go back down the cylinder
The movement of the piston from BDC to TDC.
Use a welding rod or similar screw out spark plug put welding rod inside were the plug was and turn over the engine by hand until the rod reaches the top you are now at tdc
1243 ign timing between 6 & 11 deg before TDC
Remove coil wire from distributor cap and ground the wire. Remove the spark plug from number one cylinder. Stick your finger in the spark plug hole. Have an assistant jog the engine over with the key. When you feel and hear compression coming out from the number one cylinder (it will be obvious) tell your assistant to stop. At this point you will continue to move the crankshaft clockwise by hand until the timing marks for TDC are lined up. You now have the TDC firing point for number one cylinder.
Remove all spark plugs and turn the engine over by hand until # 1 cylinder is at TDC (Top Dead Center) on the compression stroke. Now align the distributor until the rotor is pointing at the # 1 plug electrode. Firing order is 1-3-4-2 Distributor rotates clockwise.
Locate No 1 cylinder of your engine. it is usually on the passenger side of the engine V8 block front. it is also identified as the most forward portion of the left cylinder bank remove sparkplug cylinder no 1 on the balancer turn Engine (manually) until piston of clyinder no 1 is in top dead center (TDC) the balancer ( extention of the crankshaft forward, towards the radiador)should have a mark to show that TDC Note: in a 4-cycle engine the piston reaches 2 (two) times TDC so make sure it is the TDC where the sparkplug fires. ( That is indicated on the balancer mark) Remove distributer cap, the rotor now points direct to terminal No 1 of your cylinder no 1. This pocedure is fail safe, in case you dont know if someone had the distibuter removed from the engine for whatever reason.
Number 1 when at TDC. Passenger side front of engine is #1.
== == The firing order for the Chevrolet V-8 is 18436572. To change the firing order you must change the cam shaft. For example the # 1 cylinder firing can be changed with the #6 cylinder firing as long as the camshaft has be made to open and closed the valves at the proper time with each perspective cylinder. That doesn't mean you can simply grind a cam to change any cylinder firing as each piston has to be at TDC at the time when the valves are both closed for compression and consequent firing of the gases. Good luck. try 18436572
Firing order is 153624, # 1 is front cylinder, distributor rotates clockwise timing: 4BTDC auto trany TDC standard trany point gap is .019 point dwell is 31-34
Firing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 The # 1 piston is located front of engine drivers side. Remove the spark plugs, disconnect the coil wire, turn the engine over until the # 1 piston is at Top Dead Center, (TDC) on the compression stroke. Once it reaches TDC the rotor will be pointing at the # 1 position on the distributor cap. Rotor turns clockwise.
Number one cylinder is located driver's side front of engine. With the # 1 piston at TDC on the compression stroke, the rotor will be pointing at #1 plug on cap.Number one cylinder is located driver's side front of engine.
