The answer is relatively simple. Noise. Noise is the sound with no set pattern and no definite pitch
Your front bearings are sealed and are replaced only when they become noisy. A badly worn bearing will roar at speeds above 40mph and will change pitch somewhat as you change from lane to lane due to the side load that is placed on it. Tire noise (due to tires that need rotation) is sometimes mistaken for a worn bearing.
