go to autozone and have them do it it is free. or try disconnecting your battery for a few mins.

disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 seconds

NO. A timing light will not work on that engine. You must have an obdII engine scanner to set the timing on that year.
The check engine light on a Chevrolet Colorado can be rest by connecting an OBD II code reader to the vehicle's computer . Each of the codes can then be reset which will turn the associated light off.
