(This will tell you all the ways to unlock each character. There is more than one way for every character, and some people find other ways easier than the Emissary)
Otherwise, here is what is often considered the "easy" way to unlock them: The Subspace Emissary (Adventure Mode)
1. For everyone other than Toon Link, Jigglypuff, and Wolf: Just beat the Emissary! YAY! After the credits, it will have you save. Do so, and then part 2 starts. (It doesn't matter if you didn't re-claim them in the Subspace fields. They are still unlocked, just won't be on your Emissary Team until you save them.)
2. After continuing a save file that has beaten Tabuu and seen the credits, the ENTIRE MAP will be available to adventure in. However, in three areas, a new door has appeared (And is also required anyway, if you want to get a 100%). These three doors lead to battles with the three characters you don't yet have: Toon Link, Jigglypuff, and Wolf.
About the battles: You get one life vs. one life. YOUR STICKERS WON'T WORK HERE!!! The computer is ALWAYS at lv. 9 (It doesn't matter WHAT difficulty you are playing at. It WILL be a hard fight). If you lose, the field is done, you didn't unlock the character, and you have to go all the way back to the door to try again.
(A couple easy wins: last long enough for the Smash Ball or Dragoon and KO them with it. It's the only time in the Emissary you will see those items. Just don't let them get it first!)
Anyway, as to where the doors are (and it doesn't matter what order you go. but these ARE in order of how far you have to go to reach them):
Toon Link: Go to the Forest stage. You will have to go through ONE set fight (Can't run from it). Then, the FIRST red door you see (Above a platform) will take you to fight Toon Link. Beat him to unlock.
Jigglypuff: Go to the Swamp level. Right after you beat Giant Diddy Kong, keep going until you find the chain of Barrel Launchers. About halfway through, is a door above the middle of a platform. (This can be hard, as if you mess up, the launchers will take you past and it's not easy to get back to it without drowning). Enter it, and Jigglypuff takes the stage... literally. Beat her and she is unlocked.
Wolf: Go to the Ruins level. In this level theres a part where you're falling down a shaft and you must Dodge Jyks. At the bottom, you will find a door "hovering" just above the ground. This leads to Wolf's battle.
It's a good idea to save after each one, as you never know what might happen.

To set stocklives go to solo and choose classic notice theres a horizontal bar that has 5 circles in it if you press A on the circles you will change your stock to either 1 and up to 5. In the subspace emissary most of the levels allow 4 characters to play in each stage the other 2 are reserved in stock randomly you will find stock balls there red you can't miss em grab them with A and you will gain a extra stock which will be the first character you choose so if you die and get to that stock you will appear as the first character you choose Example: Say you choose Mario, peach, luigi, dk you get a stock ball you now have 4 extra stock and one for Mario you die as Mario, peach, luigi and dk then you will appear again as Mario.

it is sometimes easy but most of the time hard. It depens on if you want to brake the pen led. If you do take a pen and put it on a ruler and draw on it until it is very deep.
