I never owned a cavalier but have had the same problem with a Honda. I had to call the dealership that the car was origonally purchased at and prove that I was the owner then they gave me a code to enter into the stereo. If you don't know where it was origonally purchased you might try googleing the vin # and find out where the car came from. Often the code is in the owners manual for the car.
