unlock the character in story mode or free play. them buy the character at the store in the room of requirement.
that's what they said, but....
no, on the Xbox 360 game, you unlock them anywhere in Hogwarts, or diagon alley. or story mode or free play but the more you unlock the more chances you have of unlocking more using new characters ability's when going back on free play. and its not in the room of requirement as that is in year 5 not in 1 2 3 or 4, its (for xbox anyway) in madam malikns robe shop in diagon alley. to get there you pause then go to leaky cauldron when in Hogwarts then go down the street out side the leaky cauldron to madam malkins shop.
After you beat a level, go to free play and search for character tokens. There are 3 tokens in a level. After you get a token go to the leaky cauldron. At the end of diagon alley you can buy the there.

∙ 11y agoUnlock the bonus level by getting all 200 gold blocks. Go to Knocturn alley (through the metal gates opposite where you buy the characters after unlocking them) and into Borgin & Burkes. There you will find yellow blocks, build the door and enter.

∙ 11y agoYou have to finish year 1 to unlock year 2 and you finish year 2 to unlock year 3. You finish year 3 to unlock year 4 as well.
