When will the Magellan roadmate maps be updated?
Magellan has indicated that the decision to update maps will be dependent on the number of customer requests. I guess they feel if there is enough concern, they will plan on doing it. I wish they would, I would like to update mine. Still, this is what they told me about nine months ago. I guess its time for me to call again. Viper1 Map updates can be purchased (software updates are free) from the Magellan website (MagellanGPS.com > Products > Maps and Software, as of Jan 20, 2010). The latest update available right now is the 2009 Spring Map Update, available on an SD card for $80. eternicode

Magellan should have a website where you can download your unit's updates. I don't think it's free, though. I need to update my Garmin Nuvi online. The GPS keeps telling me to do it and I keep forgetting....<<sigh>>

Magellan Roadmate GPS will allow one free map update for your device. After your initial map update you must either purchase a one year subscription or a lifetime subscription. The one year subscription allows you four new map releases a year. The lifetime subscription also allows you four new map releases a year. Does Magellan tough case work with geocaching?
The Magellan Toughcase made for the iPhone and iTouch by my review and along with other individuals does not work well for geocaching. It does bring GPS capabilities to the apple products but it does not update position when hiking or walking towards a cache. This is a problem when geocaching.
My Magellan Maestro 4250 has base map 31 loaded in it. what map update it that?
That is a 2007 Map, my base map 31 had a production date of 20080409 on the back of the SD card. I needed the "Spring 2009" map update, base map 37. They wanted to charge me $10 for this update even though I bought my 1430 just yesterday and was told when I called Magellan before purchasing that it would come with the latest map version. Had to be fairly aggressive on the phone with customer service about honoring their map update, not too happy with Magellan so far.Their old 2007 version even completely wipes off the map my town, an incorporated municipality incorporated July 2006 but that has existed here unincorporated for 100 years. If the city doesn't exist, there's no way to enter an address and navigate to it unless you make zip code guesses.Make sure you get the current map update.
