First, go to the menu of Pokemon Platinum. Then, select Wireless Configurations. Go through the wireless configuration process, and if you search for a network, a red, grey, or no lock will appear next to the name of the router. Red lock means you need a WEP key, which can be entered to use the router, grey lock means you cannot even use the wi-fi, and no lock means that you can select it right away and start using it. Then, after that is all done, you can just go to the GTS and trade away! (Though, the DS has a range of 50 feet through walls, and 150 feet with nothing at all in the way, so be somewhat close to the router.)
