You plug the gun into the no. 1 cylinder on the coil pack. Start the car and aim it at the crankshaft pully. You won't be able to tell if it is in time or not because there is no mark on the crank pulley. Since the 98 Ford Escort has it's timing automatically adjusted by the computer there is no way or need to set it.
