Sand can be used to make glass, sandstone and TNT.
Glass is made by smelting the sand in a furnace.
Sandstone is a block that looks quite similar to sand. But sandstone does not fall down when you remove the block beneath it, which is often useful when creating houses and other buildings. It can be crafted by placing 4 sand blocks in a square, like this (S = Sand, E = Empty):
E E E
S S E
S S E
TNT isn't so commonly used. It's not very useful, and hard to make. But it can be fun sometimes. When you activate it, it explodes a little area around it. It can be crafted like this (S = Sand, G = Gunpowder/Sulphur):
G S G
S G S
G S G
You can't craft Sand, you have to dig it up.
You have to get a mod for that as you cannot do it in a normal game of minecraft.
With any block except sand or gravel. Use your imagination and show us on Youtube!
Cook sand inside of a furnace. Sand not Sandstone.
With a shovel
#$# $#$ #$# # = Gunpowder $ = Sand
If you mean turning it into glass, place sand in your furnace, and fuel it with coal or any other fueling source. If you mean setting fire to it, use flint and steel. Right click sand and TADA FIRE!

Take a search for the "minecraftWiki" on Yahoo/Google and it will give you all the information you ever wanted to know about Minecraft. My guess would be Sand. (or Ice) Actually Sand, Sand Stone, Earth block, and tree seem about the same hardness. You can use a stone Pick/Axe on those easily but you need to use an Iron pick/axe on "ores", like coal, etc, to keep from destroying them.
tnt. you do this but getting 5 gunpower and a bit of sand. go on minecraft wiki for more help.
