I was ABOUT TO do something but I decided against it. The word 'about to' is used in a sentence to show you were going to do something or a change a mind. Eg: I was about to clean my room (something you were going to do/meant to do) Eg: I was about to go the ice rink but decided against it as my ex-boyfriend works there. ( a change of mind) Hope this helps
