Best Answer

The word "physic" (noun or verb) is practically archaic to modern English. It meant a medicine, more specifically a cathartic, the opposite of a laxative. It also could mean to treat medically.

The doctor prescribed a physic to prevent the patient's dehydrating diarrhea.

The school of physic was renamed the college of medicine in 1904.

*Not to be confused with psychic, which refers to mental powers or someone claiming to have them.

The plural physics refers to the study of matter and energy phenomena of the physical world.
