How do you watch birds without getting bored?

You take an interest in the little things as well as the big ones. There is always something new to see and to learn. Having a decent pair of binoculars is a must, as you can see very little without them. Go to a place with good hides which are set up to get you in range of the birds. Get a good identification book to help you see all the differences you might miss, and remember it takes a while to get your eye in. Join a society to learn more and find out good places to go. The list is endless, but if you are truly bored, then perhaps it's not the right time in your life for this hobby. If there's one thing I've learned it's not to waste time on something I don't want to do if I don't have to!
