Remove the fuel from the fuel tank, or add the appropriate amount of fuel stabilizer to the remaining fuel.
Run the motorcycle with the petcock in the off position, if it has no off position, pinch or disconnect the main fuel line, then run the motor until it runs out of fuel.
As far as coolant is concerned only drain if the temperature will drop below it's freezing point.

I'm pretty sure that it is not. I bought an 83 ft500 tank for my 84 vt500 and it isn't even close.
Fork oil capacity is 390cc per leg +or- 2.5cc. ATF is reccommended but best to use 10 to15w fork oil. Hope this helps.

To drain the cooling system on a 1985 vt500c. Take the drain screw out of the water pump. It looks like one of the cover screws but the one on the bottom is the drain. hope this helps.
You need to first remove the plastic panel behind the seat above te rear tire. It is held on by a single screw. once this is removed 2 screws will be exposed that are holding the seat in place. Remove them and your all done.
