The wording of your question is a bit difficult to understand. I'm not sure what you mean by a "switch recepticle outlet."

If you mean a switch/receptacle combination device, and you want the switch to operate the receptacle, first you must remove the brass bar that connects the two brass screw terminals. This can be easily done with any set of pliers small enough to get hold of the bar. By moving it back and forth a few times it will simply come off.

Next connect your green or bare wire to the ground screw of the device. Then connect your neutral coming into the box to the nickle (or silver) screw terminal next to the receptacle. Then connect a black wire (or any color wire other than white, gray, green, or orange) from the switch leg terminal of the switch (most likely a black screw) to the brass terminal of the receptacle. Make this wire long enough to work with. There is no reason to make it so short you can't work with it if trouble shooting is ever necessary.

And finally connect your hot wire coming into the box to the brass terminal on the switch.

If all this makes absolutely no sense to you, find a competent electrician to do it for you. We do these kinds of things in our sleep. (Just kidding, of course.)

How do you wire in a pull chain switch in a bathroom light fixture?

If you are adding the pull chain to an existing fixture then the pull chain switch should have two wires. Wire nut either one to the hot wire coming in and the other to the black wire of the fixture.

How do you disconnect a light switch and outlet that are tied together?

If there is a black wire going from the outlet to the switch and the other side of the switch goes back to the outlet then just cut these wires and connect supply wire directly to outlet. If the supply goes to the switch first, disconnect from switch and connect the two wires with a wire-nut. Some situations only switch one of the two outlets in a duplex device. Do the same thing, but also replace the outlet since the strapping between both outlets has been removed.

You have two wall lights on one wall connected to one switch you want to change one light to an outlet and keep the other light on the switch How can you do this?

This depends on the specific way your installation is wired. Most likely, though, you will not be able to just change one light fixture to an outlet. Lights that are controlled together are wired with a common hot wire called a switch leg. This switch leg is connected to the switch so that when the switch is on, the wire is hot. This lights your fixtures. To change a light fixture into an outlet, you need a constantly hot wire. This wire is connected to the light switch screw opposite the switch leg. In your situation, you probably need to run new wires to the new outlet which carry this constant hot and a neutral. Or you would have to bypass the switch (wire nut the hot and switch leg together) and install outlets at both light fixture locations. Simply stated, this is not really an easy fix but more of something for an electrician to do. ----If you do not understand the work well enough to accomplish it yourself properly and safely, don't try it. Consult a professional electrician, as they are proficient enough to do it properly and safely. When working on electrical circuits and equipment, make sure to de-energize the circuit you will be working on. Then test the circuit with a definitive means to make sure it is off (multimeter with metal tipped leads, voltage tester with metal tipped leads, etc., NOT a non-contact tester, which is not definitive.)

How do you wire a circuit so that the switch only controls the second receptacle and the first receptacle is always energized?

You will need a receptacle that you can wire each outlet separately (not jumpered). You would then wire the switch in series on the line conductor with the outlet you want switchable. Wire the other outlet directly to the power source. You can jumper the neutral from one outlet to the other.

What type of prewire for a ceiling fan light?

The pre wire for a ceiling fan light should be made with a three wire cable. This cable will have a red, black, and white wire as main conductors. This cable will also have a bare ground wire. This wire should be strung between a two gang switch box to the fixture junction box. This pre wire allows the supply to be either fed to the two gang box. From the two gang switch junction box, one side will be used for the light in the fixture and the other side of the switch junction box, itwill be used for the fan portionin the fixture.

How many line conductors are installed between the switch and light fixture?

One. A typical "two way" ON-OFF light switch is a Single Pole Single Throw (SPST) switch with two terminals. It is wired in series with the fixture: that is, the power circuit is routed from the breaker to one side of the switch. The other side of the switch is connected to the "phase" or "power" terminal of the fixture. In a 115VAC single phase circuit, the other terminal of the fixture is connected to neutral. A "three way" switch circuit consists of two switches in different locations, each of which is a Single Pole Double Throw (SPDT) switch with three terminals. A typical use would have one switch at the top and the other at the bottom of a set of stairs. For the sake of clarity, we can label the "common" terminal on a SPDT switch the "C" terminal. This terminal is internally connected to one of the other two terminals, call them "A" and "B", depending of the position of the switch. A three way switch is connected with the circuit breaker connected to the "C" terminal on either switch. Conductors connect the "A" terminal on one switch the the "A" terminal on the other switch and the "B" terminal on one switch the the "B" terminal on the other switch. The remaining "C" terminal is connected to the "phase" or "power" terminal of the fixture. The other terminal of the fixture is connected to neutral. Note that, in either case, there is no neutral wire connected to the switch. Ground conductors do connect to the chassis of the switch box and the fixture, but they do not carry current and do not affect the operation of the circuit.

How did they use to wire two on off switches to one fixture?

You need two 3-way switches. To see a diagram use your favorite search engine and search for 3-way switch wiring. Each switch has a common connection point and two other terminals. Basically connect the "other" terminal on 1 switch to either "other" terminal on the second switch and then do it again for the remaining "other" terminal. Then connect the common on one switch to the fixture and the common on the remaining switch to supply voltage. Tie neutral and ground for fixture and supply to the white and bare wires respectively.

How do you wire a two way switch one controls the outlet the other the outdoor light with a pigtail?

You need two separate switches. You can get two switches that are in the same form factor as a single switch (2 gang switch). You use one switch for the outlet and the other for the light. You switch the black wires which are "hot".

How do you install a new pull chain light from a wall outlet?

very easy just pull your self a line from the outlet to the location you want to have the pull light fixture installed ,then connect the black wire to the black wire in the outlet white to the white and the copper ground to the ground then on the other end of the wire at the light fixture location connect the black to the copper screw and the white to the silver screw .and that should make it work with pull string .but make sure the circuit is turned off for that outlet location before you do the instillation

How do you repair a pull chain switch on a fluorescent light?

Shut off the breaker that supplies the voltage to the fluorescent fixture. Wire the new pull chain switch in series with the black incoming wire and the black wire of the ballast. Turn the breaker back on and your switch will now control the off on operation of the light fixture.

WHAT IS THE STANDARD HEIGHT FOR SWITCH?

For a light switch in the home four foot to centre is a reasonable height. Some contractors set the outlet box at four foot to the bottom of the outlet box and other contractors set the box to four foot to the top of the outlet box. There is no code rule that stipulates the exact height that the outlet box must be set to.
