The simplest way is to go to your favorite auto parts store and pick up a stereo adapter harness. Specifically for the Spirit, there will be two plugs. It will give you the designation for each wire (power from key, power direct from battery, left front +, left front -, etc...). Match these up with the corresponding wire on the harness that came with your stereo. My recommendation is to use butt connectors. DO NOT TWIST and TAPE! if you twist and tape a power connection, and it comes loose, it could ground and cause serious damage, including a fire. Use butt connectors and a quality pair of crimpers. the ones I use I paid like $3 at harbor Freight and they are nice and heavy-duty. For extra protection, wrap each power connection with electrical tape or shink tubing.
If you have to ask, you do not need to know how to do it.
the fusible links are next to the Battery you will have to take apart the wire harness cover then you will see them
If it is an after market stereo, sound as if someone spliced the stereo power source wire (Hot Wire) into the wire going to the headlight switch.

Most auto parts stores carry Chiltons repair manuals. That should have the diagram you need. If not a dealer can print one off for you, with the age of the car they should be willing to come off diagrams and schematics.
