An introduction should include background on the subject and a thesis statement indicating the stance you are taking on the paper. It should basically set up the argument for your paper. Start with two or three sentences on whatever subject your are writing about then slap in your thesis.

∙ 12y agoYou need to include an introduction sentence. It will be a statement that you talk about for the whole essay/assignment. For example, if it was about the climate in Tennessee, "Tennessee's climate is normally very warm, but can get a little cold."
You will also need a thesis statement. A thesis statement is to an essay (or any long piece of expository writing) what a topic sentence is to a paragraph. It states the overall main idea. In an essay, its good to make the thesis statement the last sentence of the first paragraph. i. e. the first paragraph is the introduction, with the first few sentences catching the reader's attention and leading up to the thesis. In a persuasive essay, the thesis should state your position on the issue being discussed take a definite stand on that issue; state the idea you wan to convince the reader of.

∙ 13y agoIf you want to know how to start an introductory paragraph, start of with a very juicy and interesting topic. Say if someone asked you " Are there alot of sports.
You should start by saying :
Intro: There are a lot of kinds of sports.
then when you say your introduction sentence make sure it always have a supporting detail like this :
Supporting Detail: One kind of sport is football. You play it on field and try to throw the football into the goal .
so once you have that start with another detailed sentence:
There is also basketball .
supporting detail :you play it on a court, and try to throw it through the hoop.
Then add one more detailed sentence:
And don't forget about soccer .
Supporting detail : You play it by kicking the ball into the goalie.
Then that's when you end the paragraph with its conclusion :
Conclusion: There are many sports, and there played in many different ways. f
