It is a good idea t start something like:
'This house believes...'
'I will speak to you for/against the motion...'
Statistics show that...
In my opinion, i predict..
i think a good way to state an opening statement to a debate is to say it firmly... not to say "we believe" or "in our opion"
for instance< it should say something like, " medical marijuana should be legalized under regulations of the government." notice how i said "it should be".....

∙ 13y agoWhen speaking to an audience, you want to make people interested in, and sympathetic to, both your subject matter matter and yourself. There is no single kind of good opening, but a bit of carefully chosen humor, especially of the self-deprecating kind, will relax your audience and make them like you.
