Changing the Transmission Fluid on any car or truck is a vital part of preventative maintence.
Read your owners manual but it is generally recommended that you change the transmission fluid every 30,000 miles and the filter every 60,000 miles.
It is important to know the types of fluids that go into different cars. A Land Rover Discovery takes Dexron III automatic transmission fluid.
The level of the fluid is critical. get it done by somebody who is familiar with automatics.
According to everyone I have talked to (many mechanics), Land Rover has it's own transmission fluid that it requires for its vehicles. And, it is only sold at the dealership. I was told by my Napa Auto parts guy that Amsoil produces a synthetic transmission fluid that will work.
dexron 3 or 4
where do I put trasmission fluid in landrover discovery 2
Dextron III ATF
If a 1993 Land Rover Discovery is stuck in a low ratio gear, check the transmission fluid levels. If the fluid levels check out okay, the transmission may be experiencing a jammed gear.
On non dipstick type transmission you cannot check the fluid level directly, but there is a bolt front of the transmission sump, unscrew and you can refill to that level.
ATF Dexron IID or Dexron III
there isnt one. theres a plug on the side of the trannsmission.
The fill plug is on the transmission pan. Fill above the plug level its best to use a transfer pump for this. Fill past the plug and let drain till the fluid starts gulping out of the hole then plug it and your ready to go. Don't forget to use ONLY LAND ROVER GENUINE FLUID otherwise DAMAGE COULD OCCUR.
