Your choices on how you go to work, what you eat and how you use energy all contribute to the environment. These contributions are not always very evident to the causal observer, but they do exist.
Pollution the causes ozone, and acid rain are two very classic examples of what can happen with poor choices. Ground water contamination is another product of poor choices.
Less obvious, but just as valid is the reduction of available energy through wasteful use.
Even less obvious are the choices being made through the purchase of items advertised as "green". There are few, if any laws regarding the labeling of green items. A consumer should view the whole picture when purchasing any item, to be true green.
Automobiles can appear to be green as a classic example. When you dig into the issue though, extra construction materials to make the car green can cause great harm to the environment. Increased use of plastics or batteries and electronics add a great deal of pollution at the point of construction that may well not be mitigated through the fuel savings during their use.
