It's possible that your protection has been damaged and it needs repairing. If that is the case, scroll up to the top of your properties. Once there, there should be an option that says, "Protect Properties for $_____". Once you pay the bill, you shouldn't get robbed anymore.

To prevent being robbed in Mafia Wars, simply never purchase property that can be robbed (of if you have such properties, sell them). I know this seems ridiculously obvious, but apparently it's not. Oncy you're past the first few levels in Mafia Wars, money is essentially meaningless, so I don't see the point in owning a bunch of property that is always getting robbed. I have billions of dollars and my most expensive property is a rental house (which can't be robbed.) Until such time as money becomes useful beyond 10th level, I see no point whatsoever in acquiring properties. If you insist on owning property, then recruit as quickly as possible to 500 members as most folks will pass you up for someone with a smaller mafia.

If you are above level 15, it is probably because the property has been robbed by another player. To fix this, just go to the properties page and scroll down to the top of the buildings list. There should be a button that says "repair all properties" but it is expensive

Rackets is the new way Mafia Wars is setup now. Older users have Properties, but Racksets will be phased in slowly by Zynga. You cannot get Properties in Mafia Wars on Facebook. You might still be able to get Properties on My Space, but I doubt that. They are being phased out. First went robbing, then went Properties.
