What is Barack Obama like?

His election was historic and unique (he was the first African-American president in the history of the United States).

As a person he is known for being eloquent and articulate (he is an excellent public speaker); he is also described as calm (he rarely gets upset, even in a crisis); determined and self-confident (all his life, he decided on a goal, and even when it seemed circumstances were not very favorable, he kept at it until he finally succeeded). His friends say he is very loyal (by all accounts, most of his friends are people he has known for many years, and even now that he is famous, he still continues to hang out with them when his schedule permits).

Politically, Mr. Obama could be described as controversial and polarizing (since the entire country is that way, and has been for a while, he is also perceived like that-- people either like him or hate him, depending on which political views they hold). Thus, his political opponents would say they find him arrogant; his supporters would say they believe he is self-assured. But both sides would acknowledge that he could be described as a good husband and father, who is devoted to his wife and kids.
