Diamond refutes the argument that the failure to domesticate animals arose from culture difference because he argues that only a few of the animal species on Earth could be domesticated by any culture. He supports his argument with the Anna Karenina Principle. There many characteristics of a domesticable animal, and if any one of them are not met, the animal is no longer a candidate for domestication. One must take into account the animals reproduction rate, personality, panic around humans, growth rate, how much they produce to how much they consume, and many other factors. Certain animals even today cannot be domesticated, regardless of culture.
