Scout gets off to a bad start in first grade because she is ahead of her classmates academically due to her home education, which causes her teacher to be frustrated with her. Additionally, Scout is punished for explaining to her teacher why Walter Cunningham Jr. does not have lunch, which earns her a reprimand at school.
