The cable connects to a bracket at the side of the carburetor with the accelerator linkage.
When the throttle pedal is fully depressed, the trans cable is also pulled to it's limit, which holds the trans in passing gear.
The bracket can be purchased from many aftermarket parts suppliers.

No. No more speedo cables, they are replaced by electronics.
I have a 350 turbo in mine Just about any transmission will work! Powerglide, Turbo 350 (lockup or non) or Turbo 400, even 700r4.
The drive gear is in the tail shaft of the transmission. The driven gear is on the end of the speedometer cable housing.

It is on the side of the transmission were the shifter cable hooks to the trans.
