gass is let into the chamber at the same time as air is.a hammer comes down locking all of the air and gas combined in the chamber. then the spark plugs ignites the gas in the chamber, shooting the hammer up. (this is what you see in many commercials) and if your car is say a v6 it has 6 of these chambers. the more pressed down your accelerator is the more gas is in each chamber. and after that reaction the rest should be obvious to see. the engine is powered from the explosive reactions.
